This is a great painting by Nicolas Poussin. I think he painted it shortly after arriving in France as the King's official painter. He produced a number of commissioned works in 1641-42. He also painted the "Madonna Roccatagliata" in the same year, although this painting of the Holy Family was not an actual commissioned print. In particular, I like his angel imagery (which St. Francis Xavier is often painted with). Also, note that at least 2 others in the painting appear to see the heavenly image as well! St. Francix Xavier, pray for us!
